He flew all the way from Lagos to Aba to mentor finalists of the Nigerian Genius 2023 engineering competition, sharing his background and experiences in engineering, project management and consulting.

Being impressed with what he saw, he created two additional awards to two teams that impressed him: Sustainable Engineering Award (N150,000) and Innovative Design Award (N150,000)

We had a surprise visit by Engr. Dr. Uchegbu Chineneye Eberechi, HOD Electrical Electronics Engineering, Abia State University (ABSU).
During the visit, he met the Nigerian Genius 2023 finalists and had a tour of our state-of-the-art facility in Aba.

We continue to extend our hands of partnership to different tertiary institutions as they are critical stakeholders in building competent engineering workforce in Nigeria.

The team displayed their farming robot. The robot they built is equipped with advanced sensors and artificial intelligence algorithms to optimize farming operations. It can plow, perform seedling operation, has irrigation system, and even alert farmers of any imminent danger around them.

The team emphasized that their agricultural robot is equipped with advanced sensors and AI technology to optimize crop yield and minimize resource waste. Additionally, they highlighted the robot’s ability to perform various tasks such as planting, watering, and harvesting crops, reducing the physical strain on farmers and enabling them to focus on other important aspects of farming.

The Nigerian geniuses were challenged to come up with an innovative solution that not only addresses the issue of illegal waste disposal but also contributes to the overall economic growth of Nigeria. They were encouraged to design a waste management system that not only promotes environmental sustainability but also harnesses the potential for job creation within the sector.

The team displayed a visual representation of a low density polyethylene waste management system. They demonstrated the collection, sorting, compaction, heating, plastic molding, etc. of waste.

The geniuses from Yaba College of Technology worked as a team to illustrate a biogas system that includes sewage storage and biogas extraction. By utilizing sewage as a renewable resource, the team has demonstrated the possibility of reducing both waste and reliance on traditional energy sources.

The Nigerian Geniuses started the day with a brain teaser and were tasked with constructing a water tank tower using straws and tape. The water tank tower should have a minimum height of 30cm and be able to carry a load of 250 liters.

The team built a tower using spaghetti strands, superglue, and masking tape. They took time to build a solid foundation but couldn’t build a high tower.



Team YabaTech

Team YabaTech Using spaghetti strands, masking tape, and super glue, the Nigerian Geniuses from YabaTech built the tallest tower. Their tower was able to carry weight. The team was rewarded accordingly.

The Participants were asked to build a tower with spaghetti strands, masking tape, and super glue. The tower will be rated based on its height and how straight it is. The tower should be able to carry some weight.

The Nigerian geniuses from Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos, also built a tower with the spaghetti strands, masking tape, and super glue. Their design was the tallest among all, earning them 10 points.

The Nigerian geniuses from Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria built a beautiful tower. Their tower was the strongest and was able to carry weights. They won second place against YabaTech, which has the tallest tower.




Nigeria has a food crisis!

Few days ago, the president declared a state of emergency on food insecurity. The average Nigerian spends over 60% of their income on food, compared to less than 10% in developed nations..


Engineers can help to solve Nigeria’s biggest problems, including food insecurity. In this second edition of The Nigerian Genius National Engineering Competition, the finalists from four tertiary institutions were given the challenge to solve Nigeria’s food crisis. Within two weeks, they’re designing and building a Farming Robot to mechanize and automate farming, scaling food production and securing the lives of farmers. Today is Day 13.

The Nigerian geniuses were tasked with designing and building a prototype bridge using toothpicks, superglue, and sellotape. The bridge is expected to have a minimum length of 20cm and should be able to carry a can of malt (33 cl) and a bottle of water (75 cl).

Each team will be judged based on their innovation, aesthetics, clarity of presentation, etc.

The Geniuses from Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State constructed a bridge using toothpick and sellotape. They were able to create a rigid bridge that was able to carry both a 75cl bottle water and a 35cl can malt. This gave them a leading point.
