Annoucing the 2026 Nigerian Genius winners!

Congratulations to Team UNIPORT!

History has been made! Team UNIPORT from University of Port Harcourt has emerged victorious in the prestigious Nigerian Genius National Engineering Competitio

Team UNIPORT’s groundbreaking project, OBIM is a medical device (smart watch) that can read body temperature, heart beat and other vital signs

The device has an emergency button which sends these vital information like genotype, blood group, height etc. directly to a doctor or any hospital that a patient chooses to contact in cases of emergency.

As they bask in the glory of their well deserved win, their success will inspire a new generation of young engineers, inventors and innovators to strive for excellence. Their triumph will have a lasting impact on Nigeria’s future, driving progress and development in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

Join us in celebrating the geniuses – Team UNIPORT!

2024 Nigerian Genius Project Demo!

The geniuses from the University of Port Harcourt are building a smart watch that can read body temperature and heart beat rate.  The device has an emergency button which sends vital information like genotype, blood group, height etc. directly to any hospital that the patient chooses to contact. The mobile app also helps the patient to communicate directly to the doctor and the doctor can as well monitor the adherence of the patients drug routine.

The genuises from the UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA(UNN).built a non contact vitality signs monitor called health sphere. The device can monitor patients vitality signs such as temperature, heartbeat, blood pressure, detect body pain and pulse rate.

The geniuses from the University of Uyo are building a medical design that can monitor both environmental and human temperature, humidity and gas leakages. The device can be also used to automatically put off and on an electrical device

Finally,  the Geniuses from the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA) are making last minute preparations for their final project exhibition.

Nigerian Geniusees learnt Practical, in-demand engineering skills

This competition has been awesome, thrilling and exciting 😀
The four teams have been slugging it out since Monday, 15th July, 2024.

They had arrived our facility on Friday the 12th.
Many teams applied from various universities but the four finalist teams are:
𝑻𝒆𝒂𝒎 𝑼𝒏𝒊𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕
𝑻𝒆𝒂𝒎 𝑼𝒏𝒊𝑼𝒚𝒐
𝑻𝒆𝒂𝒎 𝑼𝑵𝑵
𝑻𝒆𝒂𝒎 𝑭𝑼𝑻𝑴𝒊𝒏𝒏𝒂.
The Genuises begin their day with a brain teaser. A brain task to build or design something simple and useful.

After the brainteasers they do a Daily Progress Report. A team of coaches assess them to know how they’re doing, their welfare and whatever challenges they have. We also grade them for this.

After the progress reports they go into their cubicle to work on the main project.
The challenge for this year is: “𝘽𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙙 𝙖 𝙢𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙙𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙧𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙩𝙚 𝙖𝙘𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜.”
The topic is quite interesting, as it covers areas of engineering from Electronics to mechanics to IoT.

The Geniuses from were instilled with strong safety mindsets and practices. Also they learnt the process of welding and fabrication.

Aside welding and fabrication, they also learnt gained advanced engineering skills on Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing including product design, 3D printing, laser cutting and engraving as well as CNC machining.
