Skill Up Abia (SUPA) is a job creation TVET program implemented by Clintonel Innovation Center to equip young people with skills and enable them earn a descent living.

Participants were trained on Computer Aided Design (CAD), Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) and Renewable (Solar) Energy.

SKILL UP ABIA 2019

It’s been a long week of activities here at Clintonel Innovation Centre ranging from business models presentations by the 5 start-up teams undergoing incubation to the beautiful designs made by trainees in Computer aided design and manufacturing (CAD & CAM) and the amazing prototypes printed by our 3D printer.

Clintonel Innovation Centre is committed to solving the shortage of power supply in Nigeria as our solar energy trainees advanced to load calculation which enables design specification in solar panal and inverter installation.

Technology is truly best when it brings people together to solve problems.

At Clintonel Innovation Centre, we are equipping young people with skills for technology development and job creation.

Startup Incubation

Clintonel Innovation Centre (CIC) is poised to ensure that the startups which emerged from the Skill Up Abia project are successful.

Today in their incubation class, Mr Daniel Chinagozi, Founder, Innovation Growth Hub, took the teams through extensive lessons on ‘Understanding a Business’.

The entrepreneurs learnt the importance of understanding a business and the significance it holds when choosing the type of service/product to render.

Emphasis was placed on the various:

• Business Model Canvas
• Types of Business Models
• Lean startup model: How to find a gap in the market in the most efficient way possible in terms of time and money spent.

The five Startup teams participating in the incubation include:

• LED Tech which provide STEM practical kits for schools.
• Mac Designs create footwear designs and shoe soles for the footwear industry.
• Uvik offers solar charging stations and renewable energy alternatives for rural areas.
• FLI Tech builds electronic displays and alarms for schools.
• Tuzar ventures offers product design and digital fabrication for customers.

In our capacity as Nigeria’s first Makerspace and hardware business incubator, CIC seeks to provide training, mentoring and equipment to entrepreneurs to create and maintain sustainable businesses.

Skill Up Abia Graduation

Skill Up Abia Graduation was a Huge Success!
93 people trained by Clintonel Innovation Centre – CIC Aba in CAD, CAM and Solar: 
12 startups emerged, 30 new products developed, 24 internship placements, 39 self-employed, etc.
CIC is effectively addressing youth unemployment in Nigeria.

There will be a Startup Pitch Competition for 10 shortlisted startups emerging from Skill Up Abia. Three winners will be selected to participate in CIC Business Incubation program.

Participants in Skill Up Abia are equipped with Market Ready Skills in Emerging Markets including: Computer Aided Design (CAD), Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) and Renewable Energy. Some of the trainees graduate and start up new businesses, some secure jobs in existing companies while the rest become self-employed freelancers.

Soft Skills Training

Today at Clintonel Innovation Centre – CIC, #SkillUpAbia graduating class was taught soft skills to complement their technical skills. They were equipped with tools for strategic thinking, personal effectiveness, competent leadership, and right orientation to work.
The training was facilitated by Wider Perspectives Ltd, a top management consulting firm.

Funding Workshop

2nd Product Design Challenge

In their second project defence, the CAM trainees created designs of the following products:

*Drink dispenser
*Stationery rack
*Workshop organiser
*Reading stand

Very soon, Nigeria will begin to produce the goods she consumes, creating abundance of jobs for our youth.
